Further information

A converted 18th Century stable/coach house in the grounds of an attractive Grade II listed Georgian town house in the middle of Machynlleth and conveniently located for the shops. There is no parking space available by the house (apart from dropping off and picking up) but street parking in the nearby side-streets is normally available.

The accommodation consists of an upstairs bedroom with a double bed (with room for a travel cot), en-suite bathroom (shower, toilet, sink and washing machine). The open plan lounge/kitchen/diner is on the ground floor and has a double sofa/bed, kitchen table and chairs, an electric oven/hob, microwave, wall-kettle, fridge, toaster. There is small, sunny garden, with seating, reserved for the use of the Stable Cottage. Sleeps 2 (plus 2 on a double sofa/bed downstairs at a 10% supplement per extra person - maximum of 2).

Set in the heart of rural mid-Wales, Machynlleth is a lovely historic market town with a population of about 2,000. There is a train station (10 minutes walk from the house) with good connections to Shrewsbury, Wolverhampton, Birmingham (New Street and International), Aberystwyth, Aberdyfi and the Llyn Peninsula. There are also buses to Dolgellau, Newtown, Aberystwyth. For cyclists the town is well placed for off-road exploration in every direction on a fine network of bridleways, byways, forest tracks and quiet lanes and is also on Cycle route No.8.

There are lots of good walking trails – with plenty starting in Machynlleth. 10 minutes walk and you can be into the surrounding hills. In fact Glyndwr’sWay goes past the front door.

In the town (a 2 minute walk) there is: a leisure centre (swimming pool, squash courts, bowls rink, fitness suite and sports hall), several cafes and pubs; various antique/junk shops, a wholefood shop and a couple of supermarkets. Notably, apart from the supermarkets, all the shops are ‘independently’ owned.

The Centre for Alternative Technology (CAT) (an excellent day out) is about 2.5 miles out of town (accessible by bus, bike or walking). Aberdovey (with its wonderful vast sandy beaches) is about 9 miles away. Aberystwyth (where there is a vibrant Arts Centre with a cinema, 2 theatres, exhibitions, café, bars etc.) is 18 miles away within easy reach by bus or train.

If you come by train or bicycle there is a 10% discount. We can usually collect you from the station if you arrive by train if needed.
